In English 9, students analyze the short story, the novel, drama, poetry, autobiography, biography, mythology, epic, as well as non-fiction. Students study vocabulary development, application of the information management process, and grammar. Grammar instruction includes sentence formation, usage, and mechanics. Students compose narrative, literary, expository, and technical writings, grammar, and literary skills. Reading increasingly complex texts, writing, and oral communication are emphasized in each unit. Students develop an SSR and independent reading program. The skills of collecting, evaluating, and organizing information are used to create a research paper.
